The Walter Humphrey Foundation was established in memory of Apostle W. Marlon Humphrey, a visionary leader from Cleveland, Ohio, whose life was dedicated to serving others. Pastor Humphrey entered the ministry in October 1991, delivering his first sermon at New Joshua Missionary Baptist Church under the guidance of his father, Pastor Walter Humphrey Sr. Over the years, Pastor Marlon’s ministry touched countless lives, guiding communities in faith, leadership, and service.
A graduate of American Baptist College, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Theology and Church Vocations, Pastor Humphrey later completed his Doctorate of Ministry degree at South University, receiving national honors for his academic achievements. His pastoral journey led him to serve as the Senior Pastor of The Greater Faith Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio, for ten years. In 2019, he answered a call to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia, where he became Senior Pastor of Beyond Words Church until his passing.
Pastor Marlon was not only a shepherd to his congregations but also a devoted husband to Elder Tarnisha Humphrey of Nassau, Bahamas, and a proud father to Ryan, Kyle, Christopher, Alison, Amber and Michael. His passion for community building and his vision for uplifting the underserved continue through the work of the Walter Humphrey Foundation.
The Foundation is committed to addressing critical issues such as education, rehabilitation, affordable housing, health and fitness, racial equality, and recreational services. With a focus on providing support, encouragement, and development, we aim to create opportunities for individuals and families to thrive.
Through meaningful partnerships and programs, the Walter Humphrey Foundation is dedicated to fostering strong, inclusive communities that embody the values Pastor Humphrey lived by—compassion, service, and empowerment.
